How to Set Your New Year’s Resolution in Motion and Make it Stick

Many of us begin a new year by setting a New Year resolution to lose weight. However for many of us a weight loss resolution is not something that is new to us; we have attempted it several times and failed. Failed due to not enough support, lack of accountability or our goals not clearly defined with action steps to insure success.
When you decide you want to reach a goal there are certain steps that you should follow. These steps are your action plan and key to weight loss success.
The first step is that you need to define clearly what your goal is. Example: “I want to lose 55 pounds by September 30, 2010”.
The second step is then writing out different steps you will take to insure you meet your goal:
Example :
- I will work out 4 x’s per week (30 minutes minimum at a high intensity)
- I will only weigh myself weekly
- I will write down everything I eat in my journal
- Insure I am eating the proper nutrition daily (water, fruits, vegtables, etc)
- Hire a weight loss coach to hold me accountable
- Hire a personal trainer once per week to get pointers and suggestions with my exercise
- Find a workout buddy
- Tell my closest friends/family about your New Year's resolution for support and encouragement
Also by writing your goal down with the specific steps it can enhance the effect and momentum of your goal and overall success.
Thirdly, post your goals somewhere prominent within your home, bathroom mirror, refrigerator, next to your computer monitor in your office/study. This way you are continuously reading your goals daily over and over and you won’t forget the New Year resolution you set for yourself.
Last but not least….TAKE ACTION by incorporating these steps into your every day life and you will see steady changes within your body and mind.

Think Yourself Thin

As we all know that typical diet plans are anything but easy to follow but what about utilizing the power of our mind to lose weight?
Philosophers and theologians have been saying yes for the entire span of record history: “As you think, you shall be.” Variations of this proverb can also be found in every spiritual and philosophical tradition. Scientists are beginning to prove more and more convincingly that thoughts are powerful things. Even Larry King seemed impressed with what his panel of “mind mentors” had to say.
So is this “positive thinking” thing easier to help accomplish your weight loss goals or just as difficult?
Well, this depends where you are starting from. Just like exercise will seem more difficult for someone who is very out of shape, and not so hard for someone who is only a little out of shape, your ability to “manifest” a thinner body will depend on how much control you have over your thoughts and feelings.
The Law of Attraction (LOA) may be defined as: I attract to my life whatever I give my attention, energy and focus to, whether positive or negative. So in other words it works according to your dominant thoughts, emotions and beliefs. Whatever you focus on the most is what will appear in your outer circumstances. So what you have been thinking about a majority of the time? Being overweight and feeling unhappy about it? Feeling frustrated because dieting is so difficult? Worrying that you won’t be able to lose weight in time for summer or that special event?
Guess what? You are already experiencing the Law of Attraction in your every day life because you cannot turn it off. LOA is a law of nature that every atom of your being is in constant response to, whether you know it or not. Whatever you are thinking, picturing in your mind repeatedly on a daily basis is already on its way to you, so it’s simply a matter of HOW you are using it, not IF you are using it.
What do you say to yourself every day? Do you say, “I am in the process of becoming a a leaner, healthier and more muscular individual every day?” or do you say “I am fat, I have tried everything, nothing works and I am going to be like this for the rest of my life?”
The fact is you can think yourself thin and healthy or you can also think yourself obese and ill by utilizing “Positive thinking” and related methods, quite literally re-programming your brain, which in turn creates new behaviors that move you physically toward whatever you have been thinking and focusing on.
So success is achieved through positive thinking plus positive doing (attracting) plus action. There are two sides to this; without paying attention to both, you may continue to struggle and often against nothing but yourself.
If you want to transform your body or any other aspect of your life, then you will have to change yourself on the inside (your mind) first and then everything else will follow.
Utilizing the process of scientific goal setting (also known as the Law of Attraction) and mental reconditioning through emotionally charged mental imagery (visualization) and internal mental dialogue (affirmations) is the very first and most powerful tool I teach my clients.
